Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent to the independent provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request under its own policy and supplies the response. We do not keep a site-side log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent directly to us may be retained long enough to answer and keep the related correspondence. It is not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our systems may receive routine technical details when a page loads:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help measure page traffic and broad patterns of site use. Analytics providers may compile those measurements for us. A browser can reject or remove cookies, though doing so may change how some features behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Keeping the site up, running, and loading quickly
- Sending your search requests to the right partner service
- Figuring out which pages people find useful and which need work
- Tracking down and fixing technical issues
- Showing ads that may line up with your interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Stafford County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It identifies official routes to Stafford Sheriff, Stafford's court clerks, Virginia State Police CCRE, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into third-party criminal files or consumer reports, and this website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Their privacy terms govern any query submitted to them, including retention and sharing choices outside our control. Review the provider's policy before using its tool.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Stafford County offices, Virginia courts and agencies, legal resources, or independent tools. Once a visitor leaves this website, the destination's policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own technology to measure visits across websites and select ads. That processing occurs on the provider's systems.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Some information may end up with:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used for information in our control. No internet system can be guaranteed secure, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. A verified request concerning a minor's data will be reviewed for deletion.
Your Data Rights
Applicable privacy law may provide rights over personal data. Virginia's Freedom of Information Act governs access to public-agency records, while Virginia Code § 19.2-389 controls CCRE dissemination; neither turns this private site into a government records custodian. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Have us fix information that is wrong
- Request that we erase your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
